La Jolla Architects Home Project: Medieval Modern
objective
The architect’s newly designed home was inspired by old European medieval castles, with rough-hewn limestone block and exposed beams, yet taking the challenge of juxtaposition with ultra-modern kitchen furnishings.
design execution
Dark oak European and sleek surfaces such as aluminum backsplashes and granite and stainless countertops were chosen to offset the rustic stone and wood beam surroundings of the room, giving a warm protected, but bold modern feel.
other areas designed
An adjacent bar area with a convenient reach-through to the dining area was designed in the style and materials of the kitchen.
